How to create a Mac OS Sierra install media usb and disk image

This video shows you how to create boot media for Mac OS Sierra operating system.

  1. How to create a bootable usb drive to be able to easily update your apple computers.
  2. Also you will learn how to inject clover for boot with Hackintosh or Linux KVM virtual machines and convert usb to a fully bootable disc image.

For more information and a written guide please see below video.

There are 2 ways that you can create install media for OS Sierra. You can create a USB stick which you can then go ahead to use to install Sierra on a real MAC or a Hackintosh. To install OS Sierra as a VM on KVM you will need to have an install image as a .img file.

First is the USB flash drive creation method.

  1. Download Sierra from the Apple App store to your computer. If you already have Sierra installed on your Mac you can still download it again.
    sierra app                        usenet_farm
  2. Sierra will now be mounted. Do not run it. Eject disk image then
  3. Plug in a USB flash drive of 8gb or more into your Mac.
  4. Partition the drive as GUID then format in MAC OS Extended (Journaled) with the name Sierra
  5. Open terminal
  6. run this command  sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Sierra.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia –volume /Volumes/Sierra –applicationpath /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Sierra.app –nointeraction &&say Done
  7. When complete you will see that it is now mounted as Install MacOS Sierra on the desktop. This can now be used to install the operating system.

Second method create Sierra disk install .img image

  1. Download Sierra from the Apple App store to your computer. If you already have Sierra installed on your Mac you can still download it again.
    sierra app                        usenet_farm
  2. Sierra will now be mounted. Do not run it. Eject disk image then
  3. Open terminal
  4. change directory to desktop type command
    cd Desktop
  5. Create an 8 gig file by typing command
    mkfile -n 8g Sierra_Image.img
  6. Mount the file as a disk. After this command you should see where the image is mounted.
(* In this example, it was mounted on /dev/disk2.)
  7. Partitition the disk image and make a GPT partition map with command
gpt create /dev/disk2 (* or the disk number yours is)
  8. Format image run command
diskutil eraseDisk JHFS+ Sierra disk2 (* or the disk number yours is)
  9. Create installer virtual disk from Installer.app with command
    sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Sierra.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia –volume /Volumes/Sierra –applicationpath /Applications/Install\ MacOS\ Sierra.app –nointeraction

Now you will have an image called Sierra_Image.img This is a clean image of Sierra.

To add clover do the following steps

  1. Download patched clover for qemu   Clover_v2.3k_r3974_patched2.pkg
  2. Open the Installer and choose the Install disk as the installation location.
  3. Choose to customize and select Install for UEFI booting only
  4. Select a themes
  5. Under Drivers64UEFI, select DataHubDxe-64 AND OsxAptioFix2Drv

Now unmount install image and your clover edited media is ready to use.
